Deathly Hallows Tattoos
Deathly Hallows tattoos are probably the most popular Harry Potter tattoos. In the movie “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” The Deathly Hallows are three powerful magical objects created by death. In the story, three brothers received these gifts when they cheat death. These objects were an Elder Wand, an immensely powerful wand that was considered unbeatable; the Resurrection Stone, a stone which could summon the spirits of the dead, and the Cloak of Invisibility, that makes the wearer completely invisible. Whoever possesses all three Hallows becomes invincible.
The Deathly Hallows symbol represents the Deathly Hallows artifacts. The emblem consists of a triangle with a circle inside it, and a straight vertical line bisecting the circle and the triangle. The triangle represents the cloak; the circle represents the resurrection stone, and the straight line represents the Elder Wand. Most deathly hallows tattoos have the symbol combined with other elements like lightning bolt, flowers, owl, etc. Some also depict the story of the three brothers with the image of them and Death.

Hogwarts Castle Tattoos
Hogwarts short for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the famous fictional School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, where Harry and his friends used to go. The school looks like an old abandoned castle and hidden from the Muggles. The school accepts anyone who shows magical abilities, both Muggle and Pure-blood. Primary way to reach Hogwarts is via the Hogwarts Express, which leaves from Platform 9¾ of London’s King’s Cross Station at 11 a.m. There seem to be other ways of entering the school, such as via broomsticks or Floo Powder, or simply apparating to a nearby location such as Hogsmeade. The school is full of magical objects like moving staircases, talking portraits on the wall, floating candles, house ghosts etc. and secret chambers. Plots of many Harry Potter novels were set here. That’s why you will find images of Hogwarts Castle in many Harry Potter tattoos.
Hogwarts Houses Tattoos
Students of Hogwarts are divided into four houses. Each house named after its four founders: Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Helga Hufflepuff. Throughout the school year, the houses compete for the House Cup. The houses gain and lose points based on the actions and performances of its students, such as performance in class, rule violations, etc. At the end of the year, the house with the highest points is called the winner and has its color displayed in the Great Hall for the following school year. Students go through a sorting process, and depending on their qualities, they get put in one of the houses. Harry Potter fans also pick a house based on the house dynamics or their favorite characters. So, there is no surprise when fans get a Harry Potter tattoo inspired by Hogwarts houses. Each of these houses also have their color. So you might see the use of those colors in the tattoos.
Sorting Hat Tattoos
In the early days of Hogwarts, the four founders hand-picked the students for their Houses. When the founders worried about the selection after their deaths, Godric Gryffindor took his hat off and they each added knowledge to it, and created the Sorting Hat. The sorting hat chooses the students by judging each student’s qualities and places them in the most appropriate house. The sorting hat is pretty funny and the fans love it. The hat plays a very important part for all the students as it decides their future and tells their abilities.
The Golden Snitch
Quidditch is a wizarding sport played on broomsticks. It is the most popular and well-known game among wizards and witches. Hogwarts hosts The Inter-House Quidditch Cup tournament yearly. The object of the game is to score more points than your opponents. Each goal is worth ten points, and catching the Golden Snitch is worth one-hundred and fifty points. The Golden Snitch often called the Snitch, is the third and smallest ball used in Quidditch. It is a walnut-sized gold-colored sphere with silver wings. It flies around the Quidditch field at high speeds, sometimes pausing and hovering in place. The seeker’s goal is to catch the Snitch before the other team’s seeker. The game ends when a seeker catches the Snitch. Harry Potter played as a seeker for his house Quidditch team. Quidditch appears in five of the eight Harry Potter films. It represents Harry Potter. So many fans get a tattoo of a Golden snitch as a subtle Harry Potter tattoo.
Dobby the House Elf Tattoos
Dobby was a house-elf. He served the Malfoy family, and they treated him poorly. Dobby first appeared in The Chamber of Secrets and instantly became one of the most loved characters in Harry Potter. Dobby cared deeply for Harry and was always there to protect him from any harm. Harry tricked Lucius Malfoy to free Dobby and made him a free elf. Dobby returned the favor by sacrificing his life to save Harry Potter. Dobbie’s death was one of the most tragic parts of the series, and the fans never could recover from that entirely.
Felix Felicis Tattoos
Harry Potter series is full of magic spells and all kinds of magic potions. Felix Felicis, also called “Liquid Luck” is a magical potion. It makes the drinker lucky for some time, during which everything they attempt will be successful. It turns an ordinary day into an extraordinary one. Tattoo of the magic potion “Felix Felicis” is also very popular among the Harry Potter fans.
Professor Dumbledore Tattoos
Albus Dumbledore was one of the most powerful wizards of the century. He defeated Grindelwald, one of the darkest wizards in his time. Dumbledore was very close to Harry because of the all the things they had been through helping him in finishing Lord Voldemort. Before he died, he left Harry a mission, and it was to destroy all of Voldemort’s Horcruxes. Harry, Hermione, and Ron initiated the secret organization called Dumbledore’s Army with the students of Hogwarts, to stand up against the regime of Hogwarts High Inquisitor Dolores Umbridge, as well as to learn practical Defence Against the Dark Arts.
Professor Snape Tattoos
Severus Snape is probably the most complex character in the Harry Potter franchise. He was the Potions teacher at Hogwarts and also the Head of Slytherin House. In the beginning, his loyalty was debatable, and he was one of the primary antagonists. As the series progressed, Snape’s character became more layered and complex, and his true loyalty wasn’t revealed until the very end of the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Snape appeared in all seven novels of the series and happened to be on the good side.
Lord Voldemort Tattoos
Lord Voldemort, or simply Voldemort, is the archenemy of Harry Potter. In the novels, Voldemort portrayed as an extremely powerful, intelligent, and ruthless dark wizard. Nearly every witch or wizard dares not to utter his name, and refers to him as “He Who Must Not Be Named” or “the Dark Lord”. Voldemort’s obsession with blood purity signifies his aim to rid the wizarding world of Muggles and to conquer both Muggle and wizarding worlds. Through his mother’s family, he is the last descendant of wizard Salazar Slytherin, one of the four founders of Hogwarts. He was also the leader of the Death Eaters, a group of evil wizards and witches dedicated to ridding the Wizarding World of Muggles and establishing Voldemort as its supreme ruler. The prophecy said that Harry potter holds the power to defeat him so, he tried to kill Harry Potter when he was born, but he failed. In the end, the Prophecy became true and Harry Potter defeated Lord Voldemort. Lord Voldemort represents the dark side. Many Harry Potter fans are also fascinated by the dark side and get the tattoo of Voldemort.
Dementor Tattoos
The fans who love the darker side of things also get dementor tattoos inspired by the Harry Potter novels. A Dementor is a gliding, wraithlike Dark creature. They feed on human happiness and thus generate feelings of depression and despair in any person who is near them. The presence of a Dementor makes the surrounding atmosphere cold and dark. They can also consume a person’s soul and leave the victims in a permanent vegetative state. Dementors were closely associated with the Azkaban prison, where the British Ministry of Magic used them as prison guards.
“Mischief Managed” Tattoos
Another very popular Harry Potter inspired tattoo is “Mischief Managed.” The phrase is a reference to the Marauder’s Map, a magical document that reveals all of Hogwarts School’s secrets. To view the map, one must tap it with one’s wand and say, “I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.” To make the parchment appear blank and hide the map, one must again tap it with the wand and say, “Mischief managed.”
“Always” Tattoos
“Always” is not wizarding jargon like “muggles,” “Hufflepuff,” or “horcrux.” “Always” is the Harry Potter fandom’s secret password. The fandom considers it the most romantic and tragic at the same time. Always refers to the fact that Severus Snape always loved Lily Potter (Harry Potter’s mom) until he died. They were best friends as children, and Severus developed feelings for Lily as a teenager, but never got the opportunity to tell her how he felt, especially after calling her a Mudblood. They grew apart, and later, Lily married James. When Severus found out that Voldemort was after Lily’s child, he begged Dumbledore to protect her. But Dumbledore failed to do so he made a vow to protect the son of Lily (Harry Potter) so long shall he live because he will Always love Lily.
Here is the exert from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
“Everything was supposed to be to keep Lily Potter’s son safe. Now you tell me you have been raising him like a pig for slaughter –’ ‘But this is touching, Severus,’ said Dumbledore seriously . ‘Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?’ ‘For him?’ shouted Snape. ‘Expecto patronum!’ From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe: she landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office and soared out of the window. Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded, he turned back to Snape, and his eyes were full of tears. ‘After all this time?’ ‘Always,’ said Snape.
